What is a bedside cot?
A bedside crib (also called a bassinet or co-sleeper) is a baby crib that can be attached to your adult bed, allowing your newborn to sleep comfortably next to you. This is a type of safe co-sleeping that does not increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) like bedsharing, and can help you bond with your newborn.
The cots come with an end that can be adjusted to allow you to reach your baby easily in the nighttime to comfort them and feed them. This is particularly beneficial for mothers recovering from the c-section. Many are also foldable or portable, so you can bring them along on trips and use them as a temporary sleep solution for newborns who aren't yet ready to move to a larger cot.
Find a crib that has a breathable mattress, and an extra-safe cover that will keep your baby safe from stains. You'll also want to buy baby-safe items such as a blanket, a teether and a soft toy.
If you're looking for a more long-term alternative, some cribs are equipped with conversion kits that allow you to convert them into a cot, or a toddler bed when the time comes. This is a great option for extending their life span and making the transition smoother. Some models have a removable portion at the top that can be converted into the bassinet. Others can be used in conjunction with a regular adult bed or a high-rise bed. This is a great option for families who plan to travel frequently or change between bedrooms at night. You should also consider the size of your bedroom to ensure you can fit the crib comfortably. Many cribs come with a riser which can be used to create an inclined position for infants who suffer from reflux.
The Joie Roomie Glide
They are known for their high-end baby products English brand Joie has stepped into the world of cribs that are bedside with the Roomie Glide. The idea behind the product is to help parents bond with their babies whilst sleeping side by side without sharing a bed. This co-sleeper is packed with features that make bonding between parents and babies enjoyable, safe and easy.
One of the most important features is a smooth rocking motion that can be activated by the touch of an button. This gentle rhythm will help soothe your baby into sleep without disturbing their natural sleeping patterns. This is great for older babies and toddlers who struggle to settle. It can aid in digestive issues such as reflux and colic.
The crib can be locked into it once the rocking is completed to stop it from moving. It can be secured to the side of your bed with clips and straps. This makes the crib solid and secure, allowing you to sleep peacefully, without having to worry that your baby will roll off into the middle. The cocoon's rounded shape features soft padded sides and double mesh windows on both sides to allow ample air flow while making sure your baby is safe.
The mattress is firm and comfortable and comes with an easy-to-clean cover. The aluminum frame is lightweight, making the crib very mobile and easy to put together. The four locking wheels are rubber-covered to ensure that the crib won't leave marks on your floor and are easy to move around. It is easy to clean with fabric wipes and is simple to tote in a bag for travel, making it ideal for long-term stays away from home.

Anna discovered that the CoZee was a safe and comfortable sleeping space for her infant. She was delighted the fact that it didn't roll like some other models, which meant it wasn't waking her in the night when she was trying to comfort her baby for feedings. She also loved that the side lowered down so she didn't need to reach out over her partner to lift the baby for night time feeds.
The CoZee is available in oak or charcoal and is a chic option for any bedroom. It's more an expensive piece of furniture than many of the other cribs we've tried, which appear rather utilitarian. It's also lightweight at just 11kg and comes with a carry case so you can bring it on holiday or even when you move house. The only things you'll need to buy are a waterproof sheet and a safety strap for co-sleeping. The instructions and pictures are simple to follow when you first open the box.

The Iora is a bassinet for infants designed to make parents feel connected with their baby as they sleep. It can be adjusted upwards and downwards and shifted through three different slide positions to fit beside the bed of the parent or in the corner, so that the baby is always within reach. The mesh siding allows air to flow through, and allows you to see your baby easily. And you can store additional pajamas and other items in the large storage basket underneath.
Unlike some other smaller bedside crib options, the Iora folds flat and comes with a bag for travel to allow it to be taken anywhere. Our mom testers found it easy to move from room to room, and believed that it was a suitable size for a small bedside cot, not too big or too small. They also appreciated the large storage basket which is ideal for stowing spare bedding or nappies.
This is an excellent choice for parents looking to co-sleep but don't wish to share their beds or whose partner may be prone to mobility issues, such as back problems or arthritis. Our mom testers loved that they could easily access their baby while in the Iora and that it included an adjustable reflux incline that helped reduce gas.
bedside cot bed are also thrilled that it meets NICE guidelines, which are to place the baby in the crib or Moses basket on its own (with no toys, blankets, pillows, etc). The mattress is also firm and comfortable for the baby, and sheets are readily available. It isn't as light as the other smaller bedside cribs, though and if you're looking for something lighter and easier to move around, look at alternatives on our list.
